Liz & Dave come visiting

We had a great weekend with Liz and Dave coming out to visit us all the way from LA. They’ve been talking about coming out here for a while so it was nice that they were able to make it happen - it conjunction with a family wedding.

We had a fun weekend of touring around town, going to the farmer's market, cooking a feast back at our house with the farmer's market finds, and just hanging out and enjoying each others' company all weekend!

Vegas, Baby

Vegas, baby, Vegas!

We headed out to Vegas with the entire Worsham crew for a getaway - me & Brad, Le Anne, & Tommy, Todd & Alex, and even some Worsham cousins. It was awesome - lots of gambling (at Wild Bills - yikes!), shopping, tons of eating and drinking, walking and checking out the sites.

The highlights of the weekend were seeing "O" at the Bellagio (ah-mazing!!), a fancy dinner at Emeril's, and going on rides hanging off the tippy top of the Stratosphere.

It was a super fun weekend (even though we all lost money) and Brad took some great pictures along the way:

A Busy Weekend

This weekend had a transportation theme to it. We bought new bikes! And a new car! We’ve been talking about getting bikes forever, so we finally pulled the trigger and bought two bikes and all the accessories – so fun!

And then we also decided to finally look for a new car. I loved Rosie and she had lots of "character" (especially after she got hit by a truck when I was parked at a restaurant recently!). But after a while a 1996 Honda just needs to be replaced! So, we went to the Honda dealership and before we knew it, we were test driving, negotiating, trading in Rosie, buying and driving away in a new car fresh off the lot!

Besides transportation upgrades this weekend, we also got to hang with our Stanford buddies, Than and Meg, and their new daughter Cate. So fun to see them as first time parents and it was the Kentucky Derby so, of course, I had to bring a Derby hat for me and for little Cate! I don’t have a pic, but take my word – it was ridiculous!

And finally, we spent most of the day on Saturday building a new playground in Durham. I’ve always wanted to participate in a KaBOOM! build. KaBOOM! is a great nonprofit that is “dedicated to saving play for America's children” by building playgrounds in and with communities in the US. To date, they’ve built over 2,000 playgrounds reaching 5.5 million kids. Amazing.

So, when Brad said that his new company was looking for volunteers to participate in a build, we were totally in for it. It was really fun and felt good to give back in a small way. As Marian Wright Edelman said "We must not, in trying to think about how we can make the big difference, ignore the small daily differences we can make which, over time, add up to the big differences we often cannot foresee."
